Also called wild cherry, the cherry tree comes from the Middle East and various European archaeological findings have shown that humans have used it as a source of nourishment at least since the Bronze Age. Its resin is, like its fruit, very aromatic and widely used as flavouring in industrially produced sweets. The wood has a very pleasant colour, with an unmistakable pinkish hue.
