Menotti specchia
wooden floor
About us Turning wood into a design for living. This has been our job for almost 90 years. Combining our experience and passion with the talent of craftsmanship production and everything else it takes to bring Nature into your home.
History
1922 – 2009 A long story boasting a wealth of experience and projects, encounters and turning points. The first, in 1944, when we moved our machinery and production from Prestane, in Slovenia to San Bonifacio. This is where we inaugurated our new premises in 1945 and our company is still here today. In 1978 Anselmo Godi took over at the top and introduced our company philosophy and ever since it has been oriented towards research and innovation. Under his guidance, in 1983 the company was the first to register a patent for prefinished wooden flooring - a revolution for this sector. In 1996, our decision to apply for official recognition saw its first success and Menotti Specchia was awarded UNI EN ISO 9002:1994 quality certification. In 2001 Gabriele Godi took over management of the company, following up his father's vision and continuing to invest in technological innovation and reorganisation. The years that followed brought with them new certifications: UNI EN ISO 9001:2000 (Vision 2000) and in 2004 Menotti Specchia was one of the first Italian businesses in the sector to gain UNI EN ISO 14001:2004 certification for its environment management systems. 2005 saw the birth of XiLab, the research workshop for product innovation. With XiLab, Menotti Specchia expanded its design service, able to deliver pioneering products and solutions in wood, not only for flooring but for all aspects of interior design. FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification, for wood from certified controlled forests, is one of the most recent results that Menotti Specchia has achieved thanks to a production policy that respects Nature and the environment.
Our work
Our work starts with selection of the best
wood
, both from certified forests and suppliers who respect international laws. We take care of this wood right here in our factory, throughout all the production phases: seasoning, drying and preparation of semi-finished and finished products. We believe in technological investments and research into new solutions for improving product performance, while respecting the environment and Nature. Client satisfaction, high product quality and lower environmental impact – these are the great results of all our hard work.
quality certification
Menotti Specchia was one of the first companies in
Italy
to attain ISO 9002 quality certification, subsequently transformed into ISO 9001 certification. This means that every single stage of our process, right through to the finished article, meets the requirements of a Quality System defined by objective constant production criteria, in this way ensuring the dependability of our products. Raw materials are carefully selected, examined and classified according to parameters for grain and colour. Suppliers are selected and constantly tested evaluating their reliability and their respect for quality targets, the environment and international standards. Before production can start, raw materials undergo seasoning, drying and stabilisation. These are decisive stages and therefore constantly checked to guarantee that our wooden flooring has the necessary dimensional stability over time. Machine and precision tools partner with human experience to give a superior quality product that is traceable thanks to identification of production processes. Our adoption of a quality system also ensures strategic orientation for management processes, resource and production management, committing our company to continual checks and improvement of defined measurable parameters. We aim to constantly improve the overall efficiency of our company and so the end user of the product plays an important role, acting as a control and guide for the choices we make. Programmed meetings, questionnaires and analysis of clients’ answers are at the base of a company strategy that focuses on client satisfaction. Certification systems also provide strong input for research and a chance for constant improvement. Dedicating commitment and resources to respecting standards puts the company in a research perspective that not only fully meets the laws in force but at times even paves the way for new criteria and regulation concepts. For our company, certification systems were the first step towards defining our distinctive business strategy: integration between our quality system and the environmental system.
The environment
Wood is an asset we must protect. This is the mindset that has accompanied our story right from the beginning and still today it is the heart of our philosophy: enhancement of the very nature of wood and safeguarding the environment. The first consideration when giving value to wood is that the life and quality of eco-systems depend on this material. This forces us to use wood from certified forests and from a traceable supply chain, adopting efficient production processes that optimise waste and ensure that the product lasts over time. This is why we believe in the value of certification, in commitment toward our company and our sector and in responsible production philosophy.
Environmental certification
Our Environmental Management System, implemented through ISO 14001 Certification, leads to concrete advantages for the environment and constitutes a stimulus for company improvement. The environmental impact of our production activities features lower energy consumption, fewer emissions and less waste. Raw materials are selected and processed following a criterion of optimum use and maximum efficiency. Regular monitoring is carried out of consumption, emissions and the quantity of waste produced, enabling constant improvement of environmental management performance. The choice of adopting an environmental management system also imposes programming and integration of all company divisions, from management to resources. With clearly defined objectives that are shared and measurable, our company in fact works towards constant improvement of its performance at all decisional levels.
FSC Certification
In June 2006 Menotti Specchia obtained
FSC Certification
for its Chain of Custody in compliance with FSC_STD-40-004 and FSC_STD-40-004 standards. Following a model of correct management, the company can therefore process and market wood from FSC-certified forests and wood from other controlled sources. This wood becomes part of a well-defined group of products to which our company applies the Chain of Custody. This certification proves Menotti Specchia respects forest management and adheres to the politics of environmental responsibility and sustainable development. For products that are part of the Chain of Custody, we have undertaken not to purchase nor to use wood that comes from: • areas where civil and/or traditional rights are violated, • forests with a high conservation value, • genetically modified plants, • illegal felling, • natural forests that have been converted into plantations. fsc certification
Atelieritaliano
Atelieritaliano
Workshop

xilab
is our
research workshop
for the development of new products in wood for flooring, coverings and interior decoration. Concept XiLab. A workshop of shape and matter. XiLab is the research workshop founded by Menotti Specchia in 2006 to innovate wooden surfaces. The idea however goes much further back in time to the vocation for research that has made this company stand out right from the start of its history in 1922 and its great experience in bespoke projects. Through XiLab, Menotti Specchia renews its research objectives with highly innovative projects that enhance both the craftsmanship talent of its skilled workers and its ability to help clients at the design stage. In addition to internal resources, a design team and craftsmen, XiLab works with designers and architects who share the company's passion for wood, the central element of the workshop and all its projects. For designers, XiLab is a chance to experiment new ideas and see them followed through, while for XiLab the design project is an opportunity to rework wood with new aesthetic and functional values. XiLab projects are the result of close collaboration between designers and craftsmen, with a process of continual idea-testing, checked against production possibilities and vice versa, which is what happens when an idea beats a trail for new production techniques.
